Basically, biological pest control involves the introduction of friendly creatures to combat the ones that do the damage. In sostanza, lotta biologica contro i parassiti comporta l'introduzione di creature amichevoli per la lotta contro quelli che fanno il danno. These creatures are known as predators because they feed on the pest at some stage in its life cycle. Two-spotted Mite (Spider Mites) Due-spotted mite (Spider Soldino)

These little creatures, almost invisible to the naked eye, are undoubtedly the greatest menace to the grower. Queste piccole creature, quasi invisibili a occhio nudo, sono senza dubbio la pi¹ grande minaccia per il produttore. They are often unseen and unsuspected until their numbers are high and they can multiply at a devastating rate. Essi sono spesso invisibili e insospettati fino a quando il loro numero ¨ elevato e possono moltiplicare in un devastante. If they find favourable conditions in the greenhouse or indoor growroom they can literally destroy a crop. Se si trovano le condizioni favorevoli in serra o indoor growroom possono letteralmente distruggere un raccolto.

The first signs of their presence are small dead spots that appear in clusters on the affected leaves. This is followed by a general bronzing of the foliage and as the infestation increases, there will be visible deposits of fine webbing on the underside of leaves. Old fashioned methods of chemical control have never been successful for long as these creatures are very adept at developing resistance to each poison in turn. Man has responded by using ever more toxic chemicals to control them with an ever decreasing success rate. L'uomo ha risposto di usare sempre pi¹ sostanze chimiche tossiche per il controllo con una sempre decrescente tasso di successo. The side effects of this are the collateral destruction of hundreds of beneficial or neutral insects that would normally co-exist with the mites in some sort of balance. Gli effetti collaterali di questo sono le garanzie di distruzione di centinaia di benefici o neutro insetti che normalmente coesistono con gli acari in una sorta di equilibrio.

The solution that biological pest control offers is the introduction of another mite called Phytoseiulus Persimilis which lives exclusively on two-spotted mites. La soluzione che lotta biologica contro i parassiti offre ¨ l'introduzione di un altro acaro chiamato Phytoseiulus Persimilis che vive esclusivamente su due-spotted acari. If the population of pests is at a high level, the predator will multiply in relation to its food supply. Se la popolazione di parassiti ¨ ad un livello elevato, il predatore si moltiplicheranno in relazione ai suoi approvvigionamenti alimentari. Once the pest is reduced then the predator will begin to die out as well. Una volta che la peste si riduce quindi il predatore inizieranno a morire come bene. A balance should then be achieved which will maintain the pest population at low levels, below the point at which they will cause visible damage. Un equilibrio deve quindi essere raggiunto, che manterr  la peste popolazione a livelli bassi, al di sotto del punto in cui si intende provocare danni visibili. If the pests do begin to multiply beyond the predators’ capacity to consume them, the grower can then make small adjustments to the environmental conditions (temperature and humidity) that will favour the predators over the pests. Se le pesti fare iniziare a moltiplicare al di l  dei predatori 'capacit  di consumare, il produttore pu² quindi fare piccoli aggiustamenti alle condizioni ambientali (temperatura e umidit ) che favoriscono la predatori nel corso degli attacchi di parassiti. Whitefly

Most gardeners will be familiar with these little flies that fly up in clouds when you disturb the affected foliage. La maggior parte dei giardinieri saranno familiarit  con queste piccole mosche che volano in su in nuvole quando si perturbare il fogliame colpite. They are a major pest of the commercial greenhouse industry and they can cause just as much damage in a hobby greenhouse. Essi sono un grande peste del settore commerciale serra e possono causare solo il pi¹ danni in un hobby serra. Once again, the chemical approach has failed utterly to control them and breeders of biological agents have come to the rescue. The predator of whitefly is a tiny wasp called Encarsia Formosa. This minute wasp is totally harmless to everything but whitefly.
